What to do after a Cosmetic Surgery?

After a cosmetic surgery, especially liposuction or Tummy Tuck, clients experience inflammation, pain and bruising that can last from weeks to months. Immediate postoperative care with ultrasound and lymphatic massage are essential to reduce the risk of postsurgical complications and improve the result of cosmetic surgery. Lymphatic drainage is a specialized massage or treatment technique that is used to increase the drainage of accumulated fluids to the lymph this Gland is responsible for removing liquids and toxins that are not part of our system, thereby reducing swelling and discomfort postsurgical, is always recommended after liposuction, or as it is known Smart lipo because it accelerates recovery after surgery and reduces the possibility of irregularities, lumps or bumps and scar tissue formation, known as fibrosis. It also helps the skin stick and adjust to the new shape of the body and the muscles sculpted during the liposculpture procedure.

Why do I need a lymphatic drainage therapy after my liposuction, Smart-lipo, Cool Sculpting or other cosmetic surgery procedure?

Many people notice a hardness or lumps in areas treated with Smart-lipo, Tummy Tuck, liposuction, or Cool Sculpting, especially in the abdominal area and even more when combined with other body contouring procedures (such as fat injections). what is popularly known as Buttock Lift) This is normal right after your procedure. This postoperative lymphedema is caused by the inflammation and trauma of the cannula (instrument that sucks fat) that moves under the skin. The channels are formed by the cannula that can fill with liquid and the tissue also becomes inflamed. Ultrasound and manual massage of the lymph helps to move the fluid by pumping gently into the lymphatic vessels. When reducing the swelling, we reduce the discomfort. If after cosmetic surgery we do not do the postoperative care and massage known as Lymphatic Massage (LDT or MLD), the inflammation can progress to fibrosis (a permanent hardening of the tissue) or a seroma can be formed (bag of serum). Most doctors recommend lymphatic drainage therapy after liposuction or other plastic surgery procedures to make sure that your patients get the best possible results from their procedure.

Is lymphatic drainage therapy a deep massage?

No, although it may seem that a deep massage would help to reduce the hardness after liposuction, it would increase circulation to the treated areas, which would make it difficult to evacuate the lymphatic fluid. Although postoperative massage is extremely light work, it is the most efficient way to reduce swelling and bruising. The technician or specialist is required to understand the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system. It is a myth that deep massage and heat are beneficial for healing after liposuction. The Technique are widely accepted forms of lymphatic drainage therapy that are performed in hospitals and clinics around the world. So, although a deep massage or other forms of therapeutic or Swedish massage may seem useful, it is not.

Is lymphatic drainage painful?

Done correctly is not painful. The manual lymphatic drainage technique is NOT a traditional massage. It is a specialized and advanced form of body work that uses a gentle and rotating pumping movement that moves the lymphatic fluid without increasing blood circulation. Increased blood circulation with a deep massage and heat can inhibit the movement of lymphatic fluid by changing the permeability of the lymph and blood vessels. DO NOT receive a general therapeutic massage, deep tissue or Swedish massage instead of postoperative lymphatic drainage.

How many treatments will I need?

It is ideal to receive at least one or two treatments before a procedure. There are many different things that can influence healing. Some patients receive 6-10 postoperative treatments and that is enough, especially if the only area of liposuction were the legs, knees or flanks. People who receive liposuction in the abdomen often find that they require up to 20 sessions. Occasionally, a customer will need more than 12, especially if they have “Smart-lipo”. In addition, patients who undergo multiple procedures at the same time (lipo and tummy tuck, or liposuction and buttock lift) may need more sessions than someone who only receives one procedure. Sessions can be paid individually or in packages of 10 with better discounts.

How long does each treatment session last?

The time may vary depending on the areas that need postoperative massages, usually we ask you to separate one hour for each treatment.

Ultrasound after liposuction?

The ultrasound technique after surgery has been used for years to decrease inflammation and accelerate the healing process. The ultrasound modality attracts more blood supply to the treated area and therefore greatly increases the number of white blood cells that They can eliminate damaged fat cells and regenerate the red blood cells that were broken in the procedure, cleaning up the waste in that area, which decreases inflammation and speeds up recovery, however the ultrasound or ultrasound is not a pancreas, if liposuction or Surgical procedure was not done well this postoperative massage will not correct it so we recommend you always look for a Doctor specialized in this type of procedures for a good final result. All in all, ultrasound after liposuction is a very useful complement to decrease the inflammation, bruising and accelerate the healing process.
